pdf files don't show up online

First off, I apologize if this is repeated from last week, but I couldn't
find my posting.

Lately I have been unable to read links to pdf files online. I have Windows
XP Home and Acrobat Reader 5.0; I can pull up existing pdf files on reader.
This has been a recent inconvenience, and I don't know what caused it.
