pdf attachment shows as word icon and pdf extension why

I am getting attachments of PDF files however they show as word icon with the
extension of pdf and when I open the file it opens in word and is unreadable.
can anyone help

You have an invalid file association. Open Windows Explorer and click
Tools>Folder Options>File Types and fix the PDF association.
