PDC Problems

Please someone help me with this problem that is really getting on my
nerves.

I have a client with a 2K domain and the original DC is getting very tired,
I connected a new server, ran DCPROMO and transfered the five FSMO roles to
the new server.

When I turn off server 1 (old) and start server 2 it takes for ever to boot
and does not allow you to access AD, it says that the domain could not be
found. How can this be when that server is a DC and has the five FSMO roles
assigned to it.

In the old days I would have just promoted server 2 to PDC and then removed
server 1 from the domain !!!!

DNS is installed an functioning properly on server 2, please help, I really
want to see the back of server 1 ;)

If it says that the domain cannot be found, it sounds like a DNS problem.
Is server 2's ip address filled in in the tcp/ip - dns properties? (is
server 2 its own dns server?)
Can clients (with dns pointing to server 2) login to the domain?

No logins, no AD users and computers available on the server.

Also sysvol and netlogon seem to be missing from the new server.
