PCL printing problem via NDPS

Hello,

We're currently experiencing a problem while printing a PDF via NDPS to
an hp 2500 using the pcl 5c driver- We have tried this using Adobe
Reader versions 6 and 7.0.5 ...

The job is 8 pages long, sometimes stops after page 3, 5, or 6....
doesnt seem to be the same place every time.

Using the Post Script driver we are able to print without any problems
via NDPS or tcp/ip

The other thing that is strange, is when using the pcl 5c driver
printing via a standard Tcp/ip port we dont have any problems...

Any suggestions or advice is greatly appreciated ! - The simple
solution would be to install the Post Script driver and forget about
it, I would just like to know why the PCL driver works via tcp/ip but
not through the Novell Queue??

It's confusing but Windows can identify printers as either "Local" or
"Network". When printers are "Local" printers all of the processing
for
a print job is handled locally since there is no remote printer to
handle the job. If a printer is a "Network" printer, the print driver
determines how must is handled locally and how much is handled by the
remote printer. Generally issues arise with low-end printers that
can't
properly handle the data sent to them. Higher-end printers generally
do
not have an issue. The official solution is to get the print driver to
properly ID the capabilities of the remote printer, but that is not
going to happen.

To add confusion to the matter, LPR/IP Printers identify themselves as
local printers and hence fully process the job before sending it off.

One possible solution is to "Capture" the NDPS printer and print to the
captured port.

A Better solution would be to try newer/different drivers for the
printer.
