PCI to PCMCIA Adapter

Dear Newsgroup,

The concept was, want a GPRS/UMTS PCMCIA card into a Windows 2000 Computer
SP4.
A Standard computer doesn't have a PCMCIA adapter, so i bought a
AT-WRPCI-001 card from http://www.alliedtelesyn.com/
This is a PCI card, where i can put the PCMCIA card.

The problem is, the device cannot start (code 10).
The computer found the PCI card as: Allied Telesyn AT-WR2411 Adapter 802.11B
Wireless PCI Adapter

The following solutions i tried, but nothing worked for so far:
- Downloaded the newest drivers
- Looked of the PCMCIA card works on 3.3 Volts and not on 5 Volts
- Install the PCI card on a Windows XP machine
- Install the PCI card on a different PCI slot
- Google, but it seems not a well known problem
- Download Everest, got extra information from the card: Eumitcom WL11000P,
Device ID:1638-1100

Can anyone help me with this problem ?
Thanks in advance!

Allied Telesyn's AT-WRPCI 802.11b wireless PCI adapter allows Allied
Telesyn's popular AT-WR2411 wireless radio card to be used in standard
PCs and workstations containing a PCI bus. When used with the Allied
Telesyn AT-WL2411 wireless access point, a radio-equipped PC or
workstation can be deployed anywhere in the network coverage area
without the limitations of a wired network infrastructure.

Designed to connect directly to the PC or workstation's PCI bus, the
AT-WRPCI can be installed in any available PCI slot. [***]The AT-WR2411
wireless card is first installed into the AT-WRPCI adapter and then the
combination is installed into a free PCI slot.[***] When rebooted, the
system automatically loads the necessary drivers.

[end quote]

This seems to me to say that the PCI card has been designed only to
install with the referenced PC-Card as a combination unit, i.e., the PCI
card is not a generic mount point for just any old PC-Card.

Similar to the comments here:

Maybe an adapter like this would work ? It is based on a Ricoh chip.

Seems that card gets around - three identical ones here...

Purely a guess,

First i thought that too, but the contractor says to me that an other PCMCIA
card that works on 3,3 Volts also must work.
When i tried everything, i thought the card is maybe broken, contacted the
contractor and i get a new one, same type, but still i got the problem......

When you install the adapter, only, does it show up in the list of PCI
adapters on its own? Normally, one would install the driver, then
install the PCI card, reboot, and the OS would automatically find the
correct driver and the PCI function will be enabled. Then one would
repeat the process for the PC-Card: install the driver, then insert the
PC-Card and let the OS find the driver for the card. There would still
be two devices listed: one for the adapter, and one for the PC-Card
function (NIC, USB, etc).

What I think you have in your original post is the PCI card already
identified as a wireless adapter when in fact no wireless PC-Card was a
part of that install. This indicates to me that the PCI card is
specially designed to work with the vendor's own PC-Card (or a PC-Card
using the same chipset as the vendor's card) as a single unit.

I think you got right Quaoar, it identifies itselves as a wireless PCI
adapter, but this is not correct.
I'm gonna try an other PCI 2 PCMCIA card,
http://www.quatech.com/catalog/drives_pcmcia.php (the PCD-B-PCI-E)

Thanks for the support!
