PCI to PCI bridge inatallation problems.

Hi there,

I have recently installed a new motherboard. It all went worryingly well
until Windows tried to install one of the PCI to PCI bridges. Now, whenever
Windows loads it finds this new hardware and prompts me to install it.

Things go OK until it tries to make a restore point; upon which the PC
reboots.

If I cancel the installation at the "Found hardware" screen the PC runs fine
- at least I haven't noticed any problems; and all my hardware seems to
operate correctly... Apart from, occasionally, the active window deactivates
and reactivates every second or so. I think I have traced this down to a
complication between Activesync and docPocket Desktop. Closing these down
seems to settle things - and this has happened before on a previous PC; so I
think I am right in not linking the PCI problems.

I hope there are solutions that do not need me to rummage through boxes to
find the Windows CD as I have just moved house and havn't unpacked the office
yet :-(

Hardware is:

4000 64 AMD processor
2gig Ram
Asus A8N32 SLI Deluxe Motherboard
Belkin PCi USB gub
Logitech MX5000 Bluetooth Keyboard and mouse
Assorted hard disks (Maxtor 300gig Sata)

All Windows updates are installed except fro the RADI driver for Silicon
Image - btu I don't use RAID.

Any help is gratefully receieved.

You have installed the drivers that come with that motherboard? If that
does not resolve the problem you may need to rebuild your system.
Replacing amotherboard with a different model is about equivalent to
having an organ transplant; rejection and other systems often follow.

Thanks Jeff,

I have installed all the drivers I can find on the CD, I am going to try and
get to the Asus website to see if there are any others...

I am not sure what you mean by rebuild the system... If you mean strip out
all the componenets and refit, then I am not sure what difference it would
make. If you mean reinstall Windows, then I fear that is probably the best
solution, but I am not relishing the prospect of reinstalling the software,
updates and all the other gubbins that this entails - not least searching
thorugh dozens of large boxes where my office stuff is stored at the moment.
But I suppose it has been nearly a year since my last re-format, so it is not
completely alien an idea.

Any how, one must persevere.

Thanks for the advice, if there are any other ideas out there I would be
very grateful.

Kind regards,

Did you do a Repair Install? If not, I'm sorry but you will need to do
this and that means you'll need to find your XP cd.
