After formatting drive and reinstalling win 2000, I cannot
use the pci modem. When i investigate in device manager i
receive the following report:
PCI Simple communications controller
The drivers for this device are not installed (code 28)
No driver files are required or have been loaded for this
device.
This is an older system: PII440BX chipset, Intel 233
Processor.
Should i look for an ISA modem and forget the pci or is
there a way to get these drivers somewhere and install
them?
Thanks for any help
John

take the cover off the pc and find the modem card. Often it will have
the make and model printed on the chip ... for example PCTEL are common
makes etc.

You should not go for an ASA modem, as most of them are
BIG pains in the ass. I agree with the previous post
open the case and get the model/serial number and then
doa search on the net for the drivers.
most likely you will have to do a manual install.
as windows doesn't see the modem till the drivers are
installed, kinda like a catch22.
