As my pc boots, I get a new hardware detected for pci simple communications controller but no suitable driver can be found either in the win directory or on the Win 2000 professional installation cd and enquiring on pci simple communications controller in Windows drivers gives no results. Help!!!!!

More likely than not, this is the case of your modem not having the right
driver (driver possibly compatible only up to Windows 98 or ME) .
try uninstall your modem and see what happens next?

"PCI simple communications controller" is usually the term the OS
applies to an unidentified modem. Have you downloaded and installed
the Win2K-specific modem drivers from the modem manufacturer's web
site?
