Lets say i get a PCI-Express MB and a card to go in it. 2GB Ram. What we looking at?Anything else i've overlooked?

PCI-E Motherboard?=
Decent card?= around AUD$400 for 8800GTS
2GB Ram?=
Or would my existing RAm fit in a PCI-E board?
Keep the same hardrive, box etc.

Thoughts and opinions welcome.

Brands and compatability to the card would be good. Thanks

Its hard to say whether your RAM will fit without knowing what the RAM is and what mobo you are looking at.

One thing is you need to ensure your PSU has a PCI-E power connector for the card :thumb:

Going by your last thread (Graphics card upgrade) Your mb is The MSI K8N Neo 2 Platinum. Thats right yes?

If so you could try to find a 939 PCI-E board and that way you could keep your existing DDR RAM and CPU if you wish. :)

But if you go for either an AM2 or Intel LGA775 you will need a new CPU and DDR2 RAM.

But as Ady said make sure your PSU is up to the job. What is it?

An example is this....

Asus A8N32-SLi Deluxe AMD s939
Your RAM. (What you got by the way?)
Your CPU (What is it?)
OcUK GeForce 8800 GTS 320MB

That would total up to £260.

But it really depends on what you have at the mo.

Tell you what could you list your current spec?

Looking at going for something along these lines.

ASUS A8N32- SLI DELUXE nforce SL1 x16(socket 939) PCI-Express Motherboard
Geforce 8800 GTS 320MB ( PCI-Express)
1GB RAM- DDR 400(i think?)
Currently have AMD Athlon 64/3000+ - Thinking about upgrading this depending on price. Maybe the 4000?
Buying a 500GB external hardrive

Does this look ok?

Might want to bump it up to 500/550. A named brand such as Enermax or Tagan is considered widely to be the most reliable.

Careful not to go OTT with PSU's. Judging by the spec's you given us, a decent, branded PSU of 600 Watts will be adequate.

Bit too much info, but yep thats good. :)

Looks good, must say though, if your thinking of upgrading your CPU now too, it may be worth looking at getting an Intel Core2 Duo setup. Budget depending. You current CPU may hold back the 8800 a little bit.

So how much you got to play with and where would you buy from? Can you post a link to some Australian shops/websites where you are thinking of buying from so i can check them out? :)

PSU is 400 Watt. Will that be enough?
What is it? (brand name?) That may also need upgrading. You would need somewhere in the region of 500w (something like the Corsair HX 520w would be good.)

EDIT: Also as Ady said it would be nice if the PSU had a PCIE connector on it, but if it dont its not the end of the world as the card will come with a two molex to PCIE adaptor. So you will need two spare molex connectins on the PSU. :thumb:

Got a guy in Oz who will help me get good parts and a decent price. Looks like i'm going for something along these lines. How does it look?

E6600
Corsair 2GB DDR2 Ram in 2x1GB sticks
500w "Ever Power" PSU
GA- 965P-DS3P Motherboard
8800 GTS card
500GB external HD

Stilll unsure whether to go for Vista or XP. I believe that Vista has had many problems. But arent they bringing out a Service Pack 1 soon? Any replies welcome.

Sweet! :thumb:

I would be wondering about the PSU if it were me personally. Other than that its all good mate, will make a nice overclocker too if you like that sort of thing. :D

Is that the 320 GTS?
What size is your monitor?

Personally, I would also stick with XP for now, unless you are starting completely afresh with files and that.

I like the set up bar the PSU - seems that is some sort of cheapo Aus brand around $63 (£26) with a 1 year warranty - I would consider something better branded, and the Corsair HX520 suggested by V_R is a good one for your system ;)
