PC wont detect new DVD writer

I have just bought a dvd writer which i tried to attach to my pc , the problem is i have 2 hard drives and 2 dvd roms which are connected by double ribbons on to the mainboard , it does not matter how i connect them there is allways one missing from my pc when they are connected , could somebody please help , it would be much appreciated . THANKS .

Have a look in your bios settings. It is possible that
one of your IDE ports is disabled.

You either need to buy a controller card or remove one of the DVD-ROM
drives. The DVD writer will read DVD Roms.

Maybe I misunderstood? thought you had four devices installed and
you wanted to install a fifth.

When you say,"one is always missing", is the one that is missing always the
same plug on your IDE cable. Does your bios see all the drives...?
 
If you are replacing an existing DVD drive, make sure the drive jumpers are
set to the same setting as the drive you are replacing.

If you wish to add a fifth drive, you must purchase a PCI IDE/ATA add-on
card. The normal IDE/ATA controller card (PCI or on-board) only handle 4
drives max each.
