PC will not start!!

S

SHOPPER

When I try to start up my PC Windows will not start. I either get
message saying

Windows could not start because the following file is missing o
corrupt:
\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM

You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup using th
original Setup CD-ROM

Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair.

I have tried using my restore disk I recieved with my PC but I ca
either reload windows XP which will format my hard drive, or go int
the command prompt where I can not see any of my files to back them up

Can anyone HELP!!!!!!!!!

Is my hard disk broke

PS. I have a laptop as well, so I was able to send this message

It may be that your CD is a tailored 'restore' PC created by
the manufacturer. How do you get into "command prompt" mode?
Is it a true 'command prompt' or is it the recovery
console? Try typing 'help' at the prompt and report what it
gets you.
