Why does my phone ring come thru my pc speakers and wake it up? This
never
happened before. But just started when I re-installed my os.

Bios Wake on Ring was enabled last install and this install also, but I just
disabled it and rebooted, checked that it was still disabled and phone still
wakes up pc.

Thanks,
Paul

Try this.

Open the Device Manager...
Start | Run | Type: devmgmt.msc | Click OK |
Find your modem and double click it | On the Power Management tab
UNCheck: Allow this device to bring the computer out of standby.

Allow this device to bring the computer out of standby.
[[Specifies the operating system to come out of a low power state to service
the event that occurs. For example, an incoming modem call will alert the
system to service the call even if it is in hibernation.
If this option does not work, it might be because your hardware does not
support this capability. Contact your hardware manufacturer for more
information.]]

It was already un-checked. It was never like this before. Before I NEVER
heard my phone thru my pc speakers, even when awake. Modem is 5 years old,
last install and this install (xp pro) it used the same win chosen driver.

I have the exact same problem. I have an internal modem, that is not connect
to the motherboard in any way. If the phone rings, or even if I just pick it
up or hang-up, it wakes up my computer from Standby. I have already disabled
this feature in BIOS and Windows.

I hope someone has an idea on this.

I do not have a dialup modem, so I can't look at these settings myself.

Check these settings...

Open Phone and Modem Options in Control Panel.
On the Modems tab, click the modem you want to configure and then click
Properties.
Click the Modem tab.
Change the speaker volume or look for other speaker options.
