Considering the following upgrade to existing full tower and would be
grateful for any comments on the proposed unit and bits.

No a gamer but want a decent pc.

And advice on reliable and reasonably priced suppliers also please.

PSU - Antec TruePower 480

Gigabyte Board - GA-7N400 Pro2

CPU - AMD XP Barton 2500, 2700 or 2800

Mem - 512MB Crucial

Hard Drive - W.Digital 120 Mb

Graphics - Creative Radion 9200 or similar

Also any recommendations for good, efficient, quiet CPU Heat sink and fan?

Thanks.

That looks pretty good, personally i would consider perhaps a radeon 9600,
although you say your not a gamer, its more future proof than the 9200 and
you never know when that extra 3d power may come in handy.

For a heatsink/fan, have a look at the coolermaster aero series, with the
drum fans - although aimed more at the enthusiast, these fans are extremely
quiet and very effective with their huge copper heatsinks - i have one in my
own computer and i can hardly hear it - highly recommended :)

One last thing (although very minor), im sure the latest western digital
drives are quiet, but have a look at seagate - their drives are well known
for being one of the quietest around, and they are very reliable too.
Western digital are excellent drives though.

If you can't or don't want to spring for the $$ for a 9600 board
(I wouldn't even consider a 9600se)

Consider the $82 ASUS V9520-TD 128MB DDR 8XGAP GEFORCE FX-5200
(not the V9520-magic it has 128mb 64bit memory bus)
(the V9520-TD has 128mb 128bit memory bus)
