PC Slows Down

My PC suddenly slows down. Event Viewer showed that there were three
errors. Two were with source from Service Control Manager and the other one
was from DCOM.

One error from Service Control Manager showed that "Timeout (30000
milliseconds) waiting for the Norton Protection Center Service service to
connect."

The error from DCOM showed that "DCOM got error "The service did not respond
to the start or control request in a timely fashion. " attempting to start
the service NSCService with arguments "" in order to run the
server:{09B7ADDC-8BF0-409B-8571-43E8EA2AAFA3}"

Was the slow down due to Norton? Thanks.

Please post full copies of the three Reports.

Please check Event Viewer for Warning / Error Reports in the System
and Application logs for the last boot and post copies.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Administrative Tools, and
Event Viewer. When researching the meaning of the error, information
regarding Event ID, Source and Description are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;308427&sd=tech

Part of the Description of the error will include a link, which you should
double click for further information. You can copy using copy and paste.
Often the link will, however, say there is no further information.
http://go.microsoft.com/fw.link/events.asp
(Please note the hyperlink above is for illustration purposes only)

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double click
on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a button
resembling two pages. Double click the button and close Event Viewer. Now
start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of the message. This
will paste the info from the Event Viewer Error Report complete with links
into the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from Event
Viewer.

What are your intentions regarding the Norton Protection Center Service?
Have you deliberately disabled the service?

Hope this helps.

Gerry,

I have no idea of Norton Protection Center Service. My PC is running Norton
Internet Security 2006. I learned from newsgroup that anti-virus might be
the source to degrade system performance. That is why I stopped Norton
Internet Security. Unfortunately no change was made. Not long later it
enabled itself automatically.

One thing I noticed that CPU was at 100% when viewing at Performance of Task
Manager. It took less than a minute to download email with MS Outlook 2003
in the past, but it took a few minutes and was still in progress.
