I have a PC running windows xp home. I no longer have a printer hooked up to
it and have uninstalled all printers in the control panel. Every time I
restart my PC it see's a new printer and prompts to install it. The install
wizard can't find the software and I do not have a disc. Again, there are no
printers hooked up to the PC

Hi Fluchangle

Run MSConfig (Start | Run | msconfig) and click on the Startup tab. Have
a look and see if there is any item there related to your late printer -
- some utility program, maybe :-) which could be fooling Windows into
thinking you still have it but have "lost" the driver.

If you find such an entry, you can uncheck it to stop it from running in
the future. It's better though to remove the startup entry -- msconfig
will show you where to find it. If you're not confident about editing
your registry, I recommend Mike Lin's free Startup Control Panel:
http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml
That will do the job for you.

Hope this helps :-)
