PC re-build woes continue

OK, now I'm really screwed. When trying to re-install Windows XP after
the re-boot (I'm trying to re-build my machine), I'm getting this
message (see photo):

http://reilly.typepad.com/.shared/image.html?/photos/uncategorized/pict0587.JPG

Now I've only got two hard drives in the PC. One should have ALL my
data on it and should be about 200G. The other should have nothing on
it but the old Windows directory and should be about 180G. I figured
this last one was the one showing up as the partition called "C:" so I
deleted the existing partition and tried to install Windows there.
Then I get this next screen:

So am I right in thinking this partition it wants me to delete is my
secondary hard drive and contains ALL of my data?? Of am I totally
missing something here??

Any guidance mucho appreciated.

thanks,
Cameron

Cameron,
My friend your post is very sketchy! When you say that
your are rebuilding your computer, exactly what do you
mean. What new hardware have you added, replaced? Or are
you just reinstalling the Operating System, new programs?
If you can be more specific about what you are trying to
do you will get much better response.

leave the data HD disconnected until you get xp up and running; connect
only the old system drive, and use xp setup to completely delete all
exisiting partitions and then remake just the partition(s) you need to do
the install; make others later w/ xp itself.

just MAKE SURE that the system drive is connected to the IDE connection
that it will finally/always be connected too; you can't move it to
another connector later (without grief). Note that is does NOT have to be
the C: drive either, but you won't be able to change it later (actually a
good security practivce to place it somewhere other than C:).
