PC name translating to modem address

I noticed something rather strange lately. I have two PC's connected to each
other via a cross over cable.
PC A has ip address 10.0.0.1
PC B has ip address 10.0.0.2
So far so good as all pings are working. PC A has a USB adsl modem attached
to it. When I shutdown PC B and try to do ping PC A on PC A itself, the ping
command actually pings my adsl modem.
Is this right or something is mocked up in my PC?
