PC maintenance

Hi,
I only know about the following maintenance technique:
1) Defragment regularly
2) Disk clean up
3) Remove temporary files
4) Dont put files on desktop, only shortcut (why??)
5) Virus scan
Can anyone suggest me more techniques to maintenance my
PC performance? Thanks.

Yes there are lots.
System Updates from Microsoft. Update hardware drivers
when available. Don't install more than one program a
day. Test it for a few days and if there are no problems
then go ahead. Go to www.pcpitstop.com and test your
system regularly
