pc loses network connections

I have a win2K pro workstation (sp4 with all hotfixes) on
a win2k domain that after several hours of sitting without
interaction drops it's network connection (ie: network
printers and mapped drive connections). There's no way to
re-connect everything without rebooting the PC. But once
it's rebooted, it's fine until it sits for a few hours
again.

I've checked the power settings and nothing is set to turn-
off or hibernate automatically. I've also made sure the
computer isn't turning off the network card to save power
as well.

Anyone have any ideas? thanks in advance!

Let me ask for a couple of clarifications. Network shares
are normally disconnected and reconnected when you log off
a user account and log back on. But once this machine
drops connections, logging off and logging back on doesn't
restore them? You actually have to reboot the machine?

Also, is this a wireless network connection or cabled?

See KB 297684 for a possible solution.

This might not have any thing to do with it, but I've found that changing
the "Connection Type " (or it could be "Media Type" or something else on
your net card) from AUTOSENSE to 100 Base TX Full Duplex has helped me with
connection problems.

Thanks for the reply. No it's not wireless, and yes the
only way to 'fix' it is a full reboot.

I did make a change to the network card properties
yesterday afternoon that has had somewhat of an effect...
I changed the media type to 'auto sense'. It was set at
(and not by me) 'hardware default' previously. This
morning the PC was still chugging away without a reboot.
Only time will tell if it's a permanent fix.

thanks for your help, good suggestion! I changed the
media type to 'auto sense' from 'hardware default'
yesterday afteroon and it seems to be holding up this
morning. We'll see later in the day when it's been
sitting idle for awhile.
