This post is for folkes having both the 2nd and 3rd editions of PC Hardware
in a Nutshell.

I have the 2nd edition.

Would having the 3rd edition facilitate building a Pentium 4 system?

I've never seen either book you are talking about. But building a computer
hasn't changed significantly in many years. It's an ~8 piece puzzle.
Assemble it. Done! The hard part is in picking the proper components,
prior to building. But no HARDCOPY book is going to have current
information on picking the proper components, even if it was published THIS
MONTH. If the 2nd edition was published sometime in the past decade, then
it will be as relevant to building a computer as the 3rd edition is. So the
components in it might be a bit dated. So what? You still have a CPU,
motherboard, video card, (sound card maybe), optical drive, hard drive,
case, power supply, RAM, operating system and whatever else you want to
throw in there. -Dave
