PC Hangs when resuming from Suspend mode

My laptop Toshiba Tecra8000 Hangs when resuming from
Suspend mode. Has anyone hear about this?
 
A search on Google for Suspend Hangs seems to indicate that this is very
usual. Have a look and see if any apply to you. A gloomy discussion on the
link below.

I know that my son's new laptop seems to need a gentle press on the Power
button to get it working again when it's in sleep mode. It completely
ignores any Touch pad clicking.
