PC Freezes

Steve

New Dell w/ XP Pro. Four users (me, wife, 2 teenagers).

PC totally freezes...blank screen. Touch mouse:
nothing. Keyboard: nothing. Ctrl-Alt-Del: ditto. Press
On-off button: ditto. Have to turn off power at surge
protector to reboot.

This only seems to happen when someone uses the computer
and doesn't log off as a user. Screen blocker kicks in,
but then at some point the PC totally freezes??

Is this a configuration/settings issue, i.e. do I need to
make a change?

I guess You don't know Jack!
Jack is an idiot and a troll, and the other poster who is tracking him
and cluttering up the newsgroup with his responses to Jack is just as
much of a nuisance.

That said, you actually should call Dell asap. It sounds to me like bad
RAM or some other hardware issue (and I've seen plenty of bad hardware
issues with Dells lately - all of them bad RAM). Although you'll need
to deal with Dell's sucky tech support, just brace yourself and do
this. I doubt it is an operating system setting.
