pc-cillin not letting me to connect to network via hard-wiring

i have this weird problem that i can connect to any wireless network in
my apt bldg (including my own security enabled network) but when i
hard-wire connect my computer to my modem directly, it shows "no or
limited connectivity". after trouble-shooting with my isp, it finally
started working after disabling my av software - trend micro pc-cillin.
so i uninstalled and re-installed cillin w/o the included firewall,
and still, no connection. this is odd since everything works
perfectly if i just have my kerio firewall up. why would my av
software give me a problem hard-wiring to my network, but no problem
doing it wireless? any ideas??

You have to set up the exceptions in your PCCillin firewall - check the
help files, documentation, or Trend website for info with this.

I danced with Trend-Micro for over a year about PCCillin's erratic
behaviors, including incidences similar, but not the same to yours. I
did MONTHS and MONTHS of testing, I determined the PCC would interfere
with computer functions even if it was totally disabled. I also found
that a change made to PCC 2K5, in this case some time in May of 2005
triggered my problems (again, not the same as yours). With PCC 2K5
uninstalled: no problems. With the first release of PCC2K5, no problems.
In the later versions --problems. I had similar problems to yours
regarding connections as long as the PCC firewall was installed, even if
not selected. This I discovered with PCC 2K3 and again with 2K4 (what
ever their names were). Uninstalling the firewall was the only way to
regain connectivity. After last year's (2005) experiences (and 20 hours
of phone time and email time, and 40 hours of testing and sending in log
reports to those guys), my loyalty faded. Tech support is wonderfully
friendly, and terribly inept.

Presently, I am using a simple (no firewall except through my WiFi
router) program called AVast. It's free and I believe it works (no
viruses), but I never had a virus with PCC either (and none were ever
detected for that matter except for the EICOR test).

In conclusion, the good Dr. Dos suggests removing/uninstalling PCC and
see if this cures your problem. If it does, get another AV and a
software firewall. If it does not, then ask those on this sight for more
insights. Regardless, I will not apologize to Trend-Micro for what I
have reported. It is true.
