Hi,

I have an older pc with an asus A7V8X motherboard. It suddenly would not
start up,so i detached the power cable for a few minutes several times, and
the first and second times, after reattaching the cable, the pc started up and
worked ok for about 1/2 an hour before it froze but detaching (for a few
minutes) and reattaching the power cable does not work now.(it has worked at
other times as well. Was told to do this by pc shops previously).I changed
the bios battery as well, but that has not made a difference.
There is the usual single beep from the motherboard when it usually starts
up,but monitor is blank, and nothing happens.
What could the problem be?
I have had the pc do this previously, and the detaching the cable worked. But
it would go directly to the bios settings upon start up with a message that
the pc hung last startup due to incorrect bios settings (or speed settings,i
dont remember the wording).
Now it will not even get to that stage. What is wrong ????? At the moment,i
cant even update the bios if the bios is corrupted.Or is there a way?

Thanks

First thing to do is unplug the machine and open it up...
then check *all* your connections.

Unless you can see something obvious...I'd ...one by one...
disconnect then reconnect power and data cables, RAM and all cards etc...
then try again.

To fully troubleshoot...you'd need to have spare components *known good* to
substitute.

I'd probably try a different power supply first
