Does anyone know of any known issues/problems using Pc Anywhere with W2K3
server? I have installed the latest version of PC Anywhere and still cannot
make a connection. What am I missing?

I would seriously consider using another app. I use RealVNC and I use
mindterm to provide a serious ssh type tunnel for VNC to "ride in". If not,
look at any type of firewalling that is present and open the appropriate port
for AnywherePC. If you do not have one get one. A MS machine exposed to the
net is a very dangerous thing.

How exposed will I be if I open the 2 ports required for PCAnywhere to
operate over the net. I'm using my router firewall and have always been
scared of opening the ports for PCAnywhere.

I set my firewall to only allow specific IP addresses to connect to
those ports.

If you are wanting to run the pcAnywhere host on a computer inside your LAN, your router probably has a port forwarding function to you can configure to only allow access to the specific ports on that one specific machine. You should also use a strong password for pcAnywhere and change it often (at the longest every 90 days), and log/review all logins. You can also configure ports other than the pcA standard ports for more protection. Another thing to consider is how big a target your server is. For example, if this is for a high exposure company that is likely to have something worth stealing, then you want more complete protection, but for the typical situation hackers are just not going to go to much trouble when there are so many easier targets available.
