I put in a 5.1 from dell onto my pc recently. But the sound is not
working correctly.
For instance when i9 play warcraft i hear no sound from in front or in back
of my character. I also dont hear things my charicter says. I decided to
run this 3D audio demo thing i have on my pc to see what the deal was. Still
no sound from in back or in front. I really have no idea how to resolve this
issue. The surround sound is just all messed up.

What soundcard are you using? With many newer soundcards, a third
party program is installed, and you must select a non-default layout
for speakers [defualt is 2.1] (if it does not auto-detect). Also, you
should disable onboard sound through bios. Make sure that your card
can support EAX if that is what wow is trying to use.

I think i have "Realtek high definition audio". I dont know how to check or change those things you mentiond. However i do apreciate your reply to my thread =). Ill look through my pc to see if i can figure it out. The only thing i see is in "other controll panel options. There i see "AC3 Filter" . Inside i see main, mixer, gains, and system tabs. In main i see and output option that was set to "2/1". i changed it to "Dolby surround/Prologic, then restarted. It did not work.

Did you install the correct sound drivers? Do you have all of the
speakers plugged in correctly? Have you set the sound card to use the
5.1 speaker configuration? Have you set the sound card to use CMSS 3D?

I ran a driver update in windows, checked the way they were plugged in, i think i set it to 5.1 but not sure how or if i did that right, and i dont know what CMSS 3D is or how to set the card to use it.

First of all, you most definitely do _not_ want to use any drivers
downloaded from Microsoft. Device drivers provided
by each component's manufacturer's web site are likely to perform
better and offer more features than will the watered-down, "generic"
drivers that those manufacturers provide to Microsoft for distribution
via Windows Update. You need to download and install the latest WinXP-
specific drivers from the sound card manufacturer's web site.

To configure the speakers to play the sound in 3D, you'll need to use
the audio control application provided by the sound card manufacturer.
Follow the manufacturer's instructions.

Ok i downloaded the latest driver from the website. I then clicked each individual speaker to hear it make the sounds in the driver program. But now warcraft is without the bass it had before. ive been at it like 3 hours tonight.

Ok i did that and the sound is comming out of the correct speakers now using
the sound test from the manufacturer. But now the sound wont work correct
with anything out side of the sound test. For warcraft there is no bass from
the SW and i think only 2 speakers are working. also this is happening with
dvds. The sub woofer has bass in the test application but in the game and
movies its not working. Lord help me!~
