Path to finding TEMP files with XP

I've often read that if you want to manually delete TEMP files with
XP, you need to follow this path:

C:/Documents and Settings/Your name/Local Settings/Temp

I can find that folder if I choose the "show all hidden files."
However, I can also find another temp folder by merely going to
C:/Windows/TEMP, which (according to several websites I've read) is only for
95, 98 or ME computers. But yet it's there.

I've deleted everything in both those folders, as well as typing in
*.tmp in the XP Search field. Does all this sound like a safe thing to do?

That's fine. The c:\windows\temp folder does exist in xp as well as a temp
folder under your user. This is all normal and it's safe to delete anything
in these folders.

works fine.
but you might find it easier to use Disk Cleanup under System Tools.
can clean the temp folders as well as many others by selecting the options.

Yes. The one in windows is there for the benefit of older programs that
go looking for it explicitly. If a tmp file is in actual use you will
not be able to delete it; but tidying is best done straight after
booting up
