PATA? SATA? IDE? What? Will it work with my Mobo?

I am looking for a new dvd burner and am finding many good ones.
Unfortunately I don't know what my Mobo will be compatible with. How
do I find out whether mine is PATA or SATA or something else? Can SATA
work with other formats?

How do I find the make and model of my Mobo? Sorry for the rudimentary
questions but as you can tell I am new to this.

Create a separate folder, download CPUZ, unzip the file into the same
folder you just created, then double click on "cpuz.exe". Wait 30 seconds
for CPUZ to start (it is using some slow hardware interfaces during startup).
There is a tab there for "Mainboard" and it will give the motherboard name.
