enable putting an overall password for accessing the files on a jump drive
which contains nmerous files? In other words, a single password which would
open the drive for normal use, but render it useless to someone who didn't

probably.. but if you want real security, zip the files with a
password.. no-one has cracked zip passwords yet (other than brute
force

Try Cryptainer.

There are paid versions and free versions. The free version limits the
storage file size you can create.

The good thing about cryptainer is it has a removable drive version. This
program will let you make unlimited vaults to store things in.

I however do not use it like that I just have cryptainer on my main machine
and make self extracting archives that are 128bit encrypted them open them
from the driver when needed.

One other thing if you only want to protect small things like a password
list the program called fsekrit http://tinyurl.com/pgb9b that is a stand
alone program.

Sony produce such a device that requires a fingerprint to enable it.
However, be aware that the device stores hidden files on the host PC, and it
has been alleged that malware writers are exploiting this.

Jump Drive, Flash Drive, Thumb Drive, Pen Drive, etc. They are all
different names for the same thing...
