Paste Link Question

I know that you can link two worksheets/workbooks using Special Paste and
then Paste Link. When I enter data into the master worksheet, the new-copied
worksheet changes, however when I do the reverse, enter data into the
new-copied worksheet, the master does not change. What can I do to fix this
problem, enter data into the new-copied worksheet and have the master change?

I have Excel 2000.

Thank you for your help

That's not something you can fix. That's the way excel works. Excel can pull
data from a different location (a cell in the same worksheet, a cell in a
different worksheet -- in the same workbook or even a different workbook).

But it doesn't "push" data to other locations at all.

If I were you, I'd reconsider and put all my data in one worksheet in one
workbook.

thank you Dave...by any chance can you help me with this question?

I have a very large worksheet. My aim is to have Excel print automatically
the first Column and one of the Columns that follows.
For example
Page 1=Column A & B,
Page 2=Column A & C,
Page 3=Column A & D
....and so on and so on.

Does anyone know how to do this? So far I have figured out that in the “Page
Setup --> Sheet--> Columns to repeat at leftâ€... I can make Column A repeat
on each printed page. To print only 2 Columns, Column A and one of the ones
that follows it, I would have to manually select the next column, but the
worksheet is so large that this will take a very long time. How can I get
Excel to do this automatically?

I'd select B1 and then
Insert|Pagebreak.
(This inserts a vertical page break between columns A and B.)

Then select C1 and hit the F4 (repeat the last command)

All the way across as far as you need.

Then File|Page setup|sheet tab
Print range: B:X (or whatever column you need)
and columns to repeat at left: A:A

Then hit print preview to test it.

Thank you sooo much....that worked exactly like I wanted it to.

One more question and I think I know the answer, when I do the Paste Link, I
lose all the formatting that I have in the master table (every other row is
grey). Is there a way to keep the formatting when you perform the commend
Paste Link between the Master and the new copy?

As well, the only way I know to have every other row grey in the whole
worksheet is to go to FormatàAutoFormat, and choose the grey and white combo,
is there another way to perform this task

Paste link creates formulas. And formulas return values to cells--not
formatting.

And there's no way using formulas to return that formatting.

You could also use conditional formatting that would shade your rows.

Check out Chip Pearson's site:
