I must have the naughtiest 2 kids in the world. I need to somehow password my
whole computer so that they only use it when I say they can. I dumped aol and
moved to pipex so now, unlike before, there is no password to put in before
they can surf! Please can anybody help? I am at the end of my tether!!!

When you first switch the PC on, do you have to enter a password in the
windows "Welcome Screen" - its a mostly blue screen with your username and an
small picture next to it.

If you do, then you can lock the PC (as long as your kids don't know the
password) simply by pressing the Windows/Start Key + L. This will Lock the
PC making so the password has to be enterd before the PC can be used. You can
also set it up so the screen saver will automatically lock the PC when it
(the screensaver) comes on.

If your account does not have a password assigned to it, i've included
instructions on how to set one for your user account on the presumption that
you are using Windows XP.

Go to the Start Menu and click on "Control Panel" that will open a window.
In that window look for "User Accounts" and double click on it to open it.

Another window should open now, if you towards the bottom of the window
under where it says "or pick an account" you should see the name of the
account you are currently using (if you don't the name click on the start
menu again and it tells you in the bar at the top).

Click on the user account that you are logged on as and select "Create
Password" if you don't already have one set or "Change password" if you have
one set but want to change it.

For Create Password you will be asked to imput your chosen password twice
and you can include a Hint to help you remember the password.

If you Chose "Change Password" it will ask you to type in your current
password and then the new password twice in the boxes.

For some requirements, you may find it easier to invest in a
3rd-party solution, such as NetNanny or CyberPatrol.

You need to be aware, however, that *NO* technical or software
solution is fool-proof, and _none_ can ever adequately take the place of
live adult supervision. If you cannot trust your children to
safely/properly use the computer without supervision, you may have to
consider limiting their physical access to it.

Hunh? Surely do not mean that your id is autologon with no password.
Surely not with kids in the house. Proper setup, at a minimum, is all
users must logon with their own ID and password. Search
support.microsoft.com for more howto. Even the installed help on your own
computer will help you a lot.
