passwords don't work after setting them

has anyone run into this issue.

I set passwords on the existing, then, the next day I
come back and the passwords have disappeared.

I'm using Window's XP Home Edition SP1. I ran a scan and
found that I have all of the patches installed...

please help...this is how I control my children's access
to their account.

That second sentence should read "I set passwords on the
existing accounts..." sorry for the bad typos
