Passwords are no longer recognizable

My friend has a Windows XP Home Edition computer that
appears to have the passwords corrupt? They have two
accounts on the machine, both with Admin rights but when
they enter what they say are the correct passwords for
either account, it wont take. I am going to take them a
different keyboard in case maybe there is a key that is
not working, but she doesn't think that is the problem.
If it isn't does anyone know of a way to get in withou
passwords?
