On startup, I get the notice that my password will expire in two days
and needs to be changed. I tried. Put in old password and new password
and old password will not be accepted. I have it written down so I know
it is correct. I can go into Administrator but that says I will have to
open another account with new password and all data from my original
account will be erased, gone!
Is there anywhere on this system that will have the password it wants?
Thanks.

You can set your account to *Never Expires* so that you don't have to give
it a new psw, and it won't ask to give a new psw every 30 days or so. You
can start a new account or use the Administrator account. to cut/burn
yourself a CD or DVD where you can use the CD/DVD with its PSW Reset
utility to access your old account and reset the psw.

I don't see it in the list, but I have used the PSW Reset Utility to reset
an account's psw to something else, because I forgot the psw.

You setting up a new account doesn't mean you are going to loose the
settings for your old account, unless you delete that old account.

First, when you reset your password you will only lose your data if you have
encrypted it. If you don't know what that means, you probably have not.

Second, are you positive that the old password is the right one and that
both the new passwords match? Needless to say, this is functionality that is
hit by thousands of people every day and yours is the first time I have seen
a report that it does not work. You must have typed your password when you
logged on, so you should know right there that it is correct.

Finally, what does the dialog look like that tells you that your password is
about to expire?
