Sorry for the misunderstanding but I wish to refresh access data in excel,
not the other way around. If I have a password on the access file, I am
prompted for it in excel.

Ok, then you can try to check "Save Password" option in External Data range
properties dialog (menu Data-Import external data)
Or perhaps better as in Excel newsgroups
