i want to set a password for windows xp but i want it where when my comp sits
for a while and goes to sleep. when u get on and wake it up u have to type in
the pass every time... i know how to make it do the paas when u are loging in
the comp after restarting it.. can anyone help me plz

Click Start/Control Panel/Double click on Power Options
Then in the Power Options Properties window click on the Advance tab.
Next un-check the 'Prompt for password when computer resumes from standby'
option.
The click the OK button.

If I understand you, want the computer to ask for a password when the system
has been left alone for some time and the screen saver has been activated

If so:
Left click on the desktop background... a menu will appear.
Select "Properties"
A dialog will appear called "Display Properties"

Select the Screen Saver tab
Select one of the screen savers, set a "wait" period and check the "on
resume, password protect" option.
Walk away and come back when the screen saver has activated. Move the mouse
or hit a key and you should see a dialog asking for the password to go with
the signed on user account.
