when i try accessing shaired files form my xp xcomputor why does it ask for
my account user name and password? can i set my xp computer to do that?

Make sure to use synchronised account names / passwords
on both machines. Right now you're logging on as xxx on
the Win2000 PC and as yyy on the WinXP PC.

Thanks for the info. But how do i set it to either have passwords enabled or
disabled on each machine?

Accounts can be created / enabled / disabled /deleted.
Passwords can be set or modified. Are you asking how
to create accounts on each machine? If so then launch
the Control Panel / Users & Passwords and follow the
clues.
