Password security

Hello,

I am concerned about my current project. I have to connect to a database
by internet. Therefore I have to store login name and password for the
database in my application in some way but I am concerned about
security. I would be very pleased with ideas of how to store these
information in my application secure.

Are you running WebForms (ASP.NET), or a WinForms app that must connect
directly to the database across the internet?

Do you have some control over the machines on which the application is
installed (that is, do you have administrator privileges) or will your
application be deployed "anywhere and everywhere" (client machines over
which you have no authority or control)?

It's a win32 application, installed somewhere.
