Password Reset / User Account Locked

It appears that when a user doesn't change there password with 1 day left, if
they reboot there machine there account gets locked some how.
The funny thing is once this happens i can't even reset their password for
them in active directory.

I've had this happen to 3 users (Highh Level) i end up rebuilding there
accounts from scratch. I can get into there accounts but it doesn't say it's
locked, it's just acting that way.
Anyone have this issue...
Spec's...=.. Running a mixed mode environment, Windows 2000/2003 Domain
controllers.

Thanks, Chris

What you have to do is to unlock their account, not reset their password. Is
this what you did wrong?

A little more details here

1. Does the account get locked or the machine ie: if the user locks
his workstation and tries to unlock it the next day, (when the
password has already expired) - they are unable to unlock the
workstation. Is that what's happening. If they just hardboot the
machine, can they once again logon to the domain

By default, the 2k and xp workstations don't query the AD when
unlocking the machine. It uses the last entered password cached
locally. You probably have that turned off via a reg hack.

2. You mentioned the account doesnt show locked in AD Properties.
Please check the status of the account on all of the Domain
Controllers in your domain. If you have a smaller number of DCs -
that's a pretty easy task. If not, you can use some of the tools
available on the MS site to find this one out (search Microsoft.com
for 'altools')

Cheers,

Thanks for the response..

I have NO option to unlock their account. If you look at their user account
in AD the person's account is not locked.

Guys thanks for all the help. I ended up calling Microsoft and the issue had
do to legacy Novell logins. The Engineer had me try to change the password at
a command prompt and we found another error message it had said something to
the effect."cannot set user properties for file and print services for
netware" He sent me the fix to type in and that allowed me to change the
password. My user is back in business...

Thanks
