Password protecting individual folders

Can anyone tell me whether there is a way to password protect individual
folders sitting on a harddrive that is connected to a network with XP
Professional. I need to share files with people on the network and who use
the same computer as me but I need to prevent other people from accessing and
potentially changing my files.

You cannot do that. But you can click right the folder and in "Security" tab you can assign permissions.
