how do i unshare/restrict an entire drive? i try to
restrict drive D: on a certain user (non admin) and it
says it cannot do it ...

why? nothing on Drive D has anything to do with the OS

i went to this website:

for directions, but the directions it provided me to make
the "security" tab show did not work.

Hi Glen,

You will security tab if you turn off simplified sharing. Follow
instructions in this article:
Simplified Shares on WinXP Pro
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;307874

Then go back to drive properties and select security. Add yourself (and any
other user you might wish) full control. After that Remove Everyone from the
list.

Right click on the folder and go to security. Remove

the local users group, everyone, etc. Or remove all and
then just add back the admin group and backup group etc.
