Password Protected Pages

I came up with another question.

Using SharePoint Designer 2007 or FrontPage 2003, can I create a page to
block access to my entire site unless the person attempting to access it
enters the correct user name.

I want someone to submit their name so I can allow or not allow them access
to the page.

Can this be done, if so, how?

Thanks

You can ask you web host to set a password on your entire site, but you would be better off placing
this content into a folder within your web and protecting that folder, again check with your web
host on how to do this.

Here's the example:

My homepage is in folder "A". The pages I want blocked are all in folder
"A.1" which is inside folder "A".

From my homepage, I want to go to a page where the person has to type in
their current user name or create a user name which can't be used until I
approve it. After entering the correct user name it will allow the user to
access all of the files in folder "A.1" (as a webpage).

I will be saving all of the files on the hard drive my college provides.

I hope you can still help, thanks.

Hi
You might be better finding a third party "members script" it will probably
use asp or php so make sure the script you use is supported by your server

You need to speak with your server admin to see if you can use unique FP subwebs/sites.

Alright, not let's say that I am saving all of the files to the hard drive of
my computer. Say I want to leave the "web page" in folders on the desktop
(as below) and I want to allow certain users to view the files from the main
page.

I hope this makes sense.

You would be able to do this via network share (Windows Explorer/My Computer), but I don't think you
will be able to do this via web browser, however I suggest you post this question to the Windows
newsgroup.

Mr. Rowe,

Thank you for all of you help, and I no this has nothing to do with MS
Frontpage but where is the Windows Newsgroup?

Should be on the same server/service you are using to access this newsgroup.
