How to password protect a web page?

John Blaustein

Hi,

I am using FrontPage 2003.

Is it possible to password protect access to a specific page on my site.
For example, if my site is www.mysite.com, can I create a page within my
site -- www.mysite.com/special -- so that a user going to that page will be
prompted to enter a username and password to see that page? I do not need
to track who enters the protected page, and in fact I don't even need to
require a username. I just want access to the page limited to people to
whom I give a password.

Is this possible with FP 2003? I've searched Help and could not find the
answer.

Thank you.

John

Tom,

Thank you for the quick reply.

The idea on http://data-insite.co.uk/frontpage/asp_password.asp is just what
I need -- one password, no user registration, etc. I'm a real novice at
this stuff, so I'm still confused about how to do it.

Here's an example of the kind of page I want to protect with a password:
http://www.johnblaustein.com/school/bw/ I am hoping there is some
relatively simple code I can paste into my existing page to make it require
a password.

I have looked at the Source code for the .uk page. Can I cut and paste that
code into the HTML for my own page? Any further guidance, with specific
instructions on just what to put and where, would be very much appreciated.

I looked at http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;301554
and that does not seem to apply to FP 2003. I searched the MS KB and found
a page about FP 2003, but the instructions look terribly complicated.

WAIT.....

It turns out my ISP (westhost.com) provides a very simple way to password
protect a folder on my site. So, I do not need further help here.

Thanks a million, Tom, for your help earlier today.
