There are several ways to do this. You can create your Account as the
Administrator with a password to log on. If you leave your PC on, then
you can use the ScreenSaver with a password which only you can close.
Do a little experimenting on your own with different settings.
Start/Control Panel/User Accounts/Change the way.....

Rightclick center of screen/Properties/Screen Saver tab

Password your profile:
Open Control Panel and go to User Accounts.
Select your profile then select the option to password protect.

Windows 98 had no such security.
The password in Windows 9x is easily by passed by pressing "Cancel".

By the way, Win98 had *no* security; one needed only press the <Esc>
key to by-pass the log-in password.

You have some great replies from people who know what they are talking
about. But you can run a great password and still not address the root of
your problem. Make it crystal clear to the kids that they will be soundly
beaten, tossed into the basement to eat dog food in the dark for a week and
only allowed to watch the evening news on television for a year if they read
your email. I'm not kidding. You have to lay down the law to the little
savages and you have to back it up.

Several of my friends have children, ranging in age from 9 to 19, and not
one of the little rug rats will so much as look at Outlook or Outlook
Express without permission from their mom or dad. Kids tend to use Hotmail,
Yahoo! or Excite email so they have no reason to be looking in Outlook or
OE.

Let the little darlings know that they live in a dictatorship, not a
democracy. When they turn 18 and leave home, they can do whatever they
want. Until then, you are God. Your word is law! Punishment for breaking
the law will be sure, swift and terrible.
