Password Protect A Page

Hi All,

I took over a web site for our search and rescue team about a year ago.
http://www.bcwst.org. We have our hosting through go daddy. I switched our
hostng server from windows to linux to use .htaccess. Everything was working
fine until I upgraded our hosting configuration from 1.0 to 2.0. I was no
longer able to update using http://bcwst.org. I was told by Go Daddy that
because I was using Front Page 2003 I had to be on a windows server. I
switched back and I am able to update again. So my question is do I have to
be on a windows server and if so how do I password protection similar to
..htaccess? I am not very good with code or programming and the .htaccess was
very simple and worked. I would love to go back to that.

FP2003 doesn't require you to be hosted on a Windows server unless your want to use Windows specific
features, such as the Server Stats, File Upload Component and/or the FP database components.

Great and thanks for the help. Now onto the next issue. At one point I had
my .htaccess working. Now, I have downloaded the .htaccess file from the
server, added my code to it and then uploaded it to folder I wnat to protect.
When you go to the website home page the password box comes up, if you
cancel you can navigate through the site. When you go to the members only
link you are again prompted fro your user ID and password, when entered it
does not recognize the user ID and password. Do I need to keep the original
..htaccess file in the main directory or just the one in the members folder?
Where am I going wrong.

I am not a Unix/Linux user, however I think you need to keen the original .htaccess file in the root
since it impact your FP extensions usage.
