Out of nowhere, Vista is asking for a password but I never put one in so have
no back-up disk. Have a network...any suggestions?

Hi,

Run the system in safe mode and login as Administrator. Next Control Pane ->
Users. By manage other account you can set new password for your account.

Log in as Administrator and the password is Blank. Then when you have entered your system change the Log in Screen to reflect what you want

You say that you have a Network; you should have said more.

At a guess, in Vista go to Network> Network and Sharing> and turn password
protected OFF.

That is in the part about file sharing, network discovery, etc.
