I know how to create a password in OE, but what is the point of having a
password if you are not prompted to enter it until AFTER the program has
launched? The password prevents new email from arriving, but EXISTING email
messages are right there for anyone to read!

The password is to connect Outlook Express to the ISP mail server. It
has nothing to do with Outlook Express opening. If you want A SECURE
WORKSTATION, don't set Windows 2000 to auto login.

I understand what you are saying but it doesn't solve my problem. I do not
mind my house guests using my computer to access the web and do not want to
lock them out of my operating system. I just want to prevent access to my
private mail. What do you suggest? Thank you.

Create a limited User Account for them to use, and don't let them use
your account. Then you may restric what folders they may see or open.
Please read up on all the available Help on Security the Help files
contain.

Or, create an identify for your own email use, assigned it a passowrd, and
be sure that you always log off that identity after using it.

Gary Identity. I know sp it always gets me too. Create an identity in Outlook Express and make it password protected.
