XP pro schould have been installed on my PC since about 5 years. Perhaps on
the beginning, but then no longer I needed to use the user "Administrator",
as I have my own and sole profile with the right of administrator. But very
recently I had to use "Administrator", as told by XP, to delete some file I
had to do on request by bitdefender, under secure mode. That's what I did,
but as I was convinced by memory that I never introduced a password, I was
surprised that I was asked for. So, ignoring or having forgot it(?), I was
unable to log-in. So what can I do? I have to ad that this PC is strictly
private and that I'am the sole user.
Thank for helpful advice.

Since your own account has the privileges of an administrator,
you can change the password of every account on your PC.
Here is a quick way of doing it:
- Log on under your own account
- Click Start / run / cmd {OK}
- Type this command:
net user administrator xxxxx{Enter}
(where xxxxx is the new password)

Unless you've set the Administrator's password via the Management
Console (_not_ the Control Panel), it's probably still blank. WinXP Pro
asks the user to set the Administrator's password during installation,
but WinXP Home doesn't.

Simply log in using the built-in Administrator account (which
cannot be deleted) and modify the desired account(s) and use Start > Run
"control userpasswords2" to modify the desired account(s).

By design, the only way to log into the Administrator account of
WinXP Home is to reboot into Safe Mode. For WinXP Pro, pressing
CTRL+ALT+DEL twice at the Welcome Screen will produce the standard login
dialog box.

Failing that, Linux-based password cracking utilities abound on the
Internet, freely available to anyone who can use Google.
