Password bypass for Win2K Pro

Basically I bought a second hand Pc for my son and now neither I nor the
seller can remember the password. I don't know if the OS was pre-installed or
not. I've downloaded the 4 boot discs to re-install and a password recovery
key, which are all now on floppy disks. Is this going to work? If so, what is
the exact procedure ie step by step, as if you are talking to a 5 year old.
If not do I really have to throw away a perfectly good PC that has virtually
never been used. If this is the case there is something seriously wrong
somewhere.

Are you clean installing? To do a clean install, either boot the Windows
2000 install CD-Rom or setup disks. The set of four install disks can be
created from your Windows 2000 CD-Rom; change to the \bootdisk directory on
the CD-Rom and execute makeboot.exe (from dos) or makebt32.exe (from 32 bit)
and follow the prompts.

When you get to the point, delete the existing NTFS and or other partitions
found. After you delete the partition(s) abort the install, then again
restart the pc booting the CD-Rom or setup disks to avoid unexpected drive
letter assignments with your new install.

Be sure to apply these to your new install before connecting to any network.

Installation from scratch. Not an upgrade.

Not to worry. See http://www.jsiinc.com hint #1984. It is a bootable
utility that will reset the admin password.

Well, the OS is there and probably fine-I just can't gain access- due to not
knowing the password. I don't know how to do a clean install-I have the
disks. The computer starts and continues to the log on window-I can only
access Set UP by pressing delete or
troubleshooting with f8 I can't get the system to read the disks from drive
A- nothing happens.
