Hi,
Just found this forum and thought that you might be able to identify a
solution to the problem I have had for several months now.
I have 3 computers networked and one internet connection. They have been
interconnecting fine until I went and messed it up by getting a new computer.
I'm certainly no networking or hardware whizz but I set it up how I thought
it should be, using wizards etc and have had partial success but cant get it
working fully. The problem is that no-one else can connect with the new
computer.
Old1 and Old2 connect well, New1 can read and use files on both Old1 and
Old2. All computers can use the internet connection fine. But neither Old 1
nor Old2 can read files on New1 - they can see it but as soon as they try and
access any data a (I assume) Windows Password Box pops up saying "Connect to
New1" with a picture of some keys.
There are no passwords set up, and file sharing is enabled. Windows Firewall
should be set to OFF and I use Norton Internet Security. I have tried
disabling NIS and I still get the box, so I am assuming that the issue is
with Windows rather than NIS.
Can someone tell me what is going on? What *is* that darned password box and
why is it popping up???
